Late spring and early summer bring grass pollen. This season is strongest in May, June, and early July. Meadows and roadside grasses release pollen into the wind. Ryegrass, fescue, and other common grasses are important sources around town and nearby fields.

Mid to late summer has weed pollen. It often appears from July through September. Plants such as mugwort, plantain, nettle, and ragweed release pollen then. Dry, warm days can help this pollen spread far through the air.

Autumn usually has less pollen in Kazanlak. Some weeds may still release pollen in September and October. By late autumn, most plants stop flowering. Winter brings very little pollen, because cold weather slows plant growth and flowering.
