In Finland, pollen season starts in March. Birch trees produce most pollen. People with allergies stay indoors when pollen counts are high. Windows are closed to keep pollen out.
In Norway, pollen season begins in April. Grasses and trees release pollen. Spring showers can bring more pollen. Pollen spreads easily on windy days.
Finland and Norway have similar pollen seasons. Late spring brings more pollen. Summer sunshine makes plants grow and produce pollen. Pollen counts are usually highest in June.
In both countries, pollen counts decrease in autumn. Trees stop producing pollen. Leaves fall from trees. Winter brings low pollen counts and relief.

When pollen counts are high, we suggest doing these things to help with allergies, especially on windy days when pollen is flying around.
- Wear masks if necessary
- Shower after going out
- Wear sunglasses if windy
- Close windows and doors
- Use an indoor air purifier
- Avoid wearing woolen clothes outside
- Limit outdoor activities
