Pollen allergies are caused by the body's reaction to tiny particles in the air. Trees, grasses, and weeds release pollen to reproduce.
In Wageningen, pollen seasons vary by plant type. Tree pollen is highest from March to May. Grass pollen peaks in June and July.
Weed pollen counts are highest from July to September. Ragweed is a common allergen. It grows in fields and along roadsides.
Pollen counts are usually highest in the morning and evening. Windy days can spread pollen farther. Rain reduces pollen counts.
When pollen counts are high, we suggest doing these things to help with allergies, especially on windy days when pollen is flying around.
