Pollen allergies occur when the body reacts to pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds. This reaction causes symptoms like sneezing, itchy eyes, and runny noses.
Maastricht, Netherlands has three main pollen seasons. Tree pollen season starts in March and lasts until May. Grass pollen season begins in May and ends in July.
Weed pollen season starts in July and lasts until September. During these seasons, pollen counts are highest on warm, sunny days with little wind.
To minimize symptoms, stay indoors when pollen counts are high, keep windows closed, and use air purifiers. Avoid outdoor activities during peak pollen hours, usually between 5am and 10am.
When pollen counts are high, we suggest doing these things to help with allergies, especially on windy days when pollen is flying around.
