Pollen allergies occur when the body reacts to airborne pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds. Symptoms include sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and congestion.
Aarhus, Denmark has two main pollen seasons. Tree pollen season starts in late March and lasts until early May. Grass pollen season starts in mid-May and lasts until late July.
During these seasons, pollen counts are highest on warm, sunny days with low humidity. Wind can also spread pollen, making symptoms worse.
To avoid symptoms, stay indoors when pollen counts are high, keep windows closed, and use an air purifier. Wear sunglasses and a mask when outdoors.
When pollen counts are high, we suggest doing these things to help with allergies, especially on windy days when pollen is flying around.
